Compliance Specialist - Affordable Housing

Sage currently seeks an experienced Compliance Specialist to be based at our Corporate Headquarters in Irvine. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Compliance the Compliance Specialist will review and approve new resident applications and assist with all compliance related issues throughout our national portfolio.

• Keep current on all updates and changes in affordable housing programs and requirements.
• Review and approve Move-ins, Interims and Annual Recertifications for all applicable housing programs (Section 8 Project Based, LIHTC, Bond and USDA Rural Development).
• Ensure all applicable housing program forms are in file and properly completed.
• Perform necessary on-site file audits.
• Ensure all weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports are completed on time.
• Assist with the preparation for MOR reviews, LIHTC and State Agency inspections.
• Complete responses to MOR reviews, LIHTC and State Agency inspections to ensure close-out
• Work with on-site team and Regional Voucher Specialist to ensure timely submission of HAP Payments for assigned portfolio, assist with HAP Reconciliation.
• Review and assist Regional Voucher Specialist with Special Claims for approval.
• Assist with HUD annual rent increases, contract renewals and utility analysis.
• Ensure the accuracy of the waiting list of applicants for housing to determine applicant eligibility.
• Conduct training for community managers, regional property managers and corporate staff to ensure compliance with federal, state and local housing agencies.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by Management.


• Five plus years’ in affordable housing compliance experience in Project Based Section 8, LIHTC, Bond and USDA Rural Development.
• Affordable Housing Compliance Certifications highly preferred. Assisted Housing Manager (AHM), Certified Professional of Occupancy (CPO), Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS) and Tax Credit Specialist (TCS). Additional Industry certifications will be considered.
• Proficiency in Yardi Voyager preferred.
• Able to work patiently and professionally with residents while providing exceptional customer service.
• Preserves and respects resident and applicant confidentiality.
• Highly motivated and able to work independently.
• Ability to handle pressure due to complexity and time sensitivity.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic math proficiency required.
